Matheson To Pick New Campaign Chair?

It's been rumored that Congressman Matheson has been looking for a skilled individual to run his re-election campaign.  The necessary qualifications include:
1.  Familiarity with Utah
2.  Has been part of a successful statewide campaign
3.  Is very comfortable with both the Democrat and Republican caucuses.

Sounds like Orrin's in the running (despite some weakness with #1).

Why you ask?  Well, if you attended the GOP convention last Saturday or talked with someone who did, you might know already.   There's been some discussion (and a bit of consternation) on the part of  delegates who attended the convention -- concerned that Orrin went a little overboard in heaping praise on Matheson, particularly in an election year (and at the convention no less).

But it doesn't stop there.  If you attended the opening of Cabela's last week, you might have thought Orrin was stumping for Matheson's re-election, piling the praise higher than at convention -- things like: make a great team, work well together, puts Utah first, didn't know he was a Democrat, calls me Sir Orrin, ... (OK, so he didn't say all those things.)

Can't wait to see Matheson run some "endorsed by Orrin" clips during the campaign.  Is anyone making the "Orrin-ites for Matheson" buttons?  Any music to go with these new lyrics?

I was standing next to Senator Bennett when they announced the election results for the party leadership. Senator Hatch was standing on the other side of Senator Bennett. Senator Bennett turned to Hatch and said quietly, but not so quietly that I couldn't hear him, "Congratulations."
